EVENT: Birthday Party

The tavern is curiously more crowded than usual tonight. Perhaps it's the recent influx of travelers who have decided to stay at Budehuc, or the fact that it's a certain squire's birthday, but the barkeep hasn't seen such a big crowd since the days of Nadir's plays. Drowned out by the drunken men's laughter and absurd stories, a small band of musicians can also be heard playing near the stage.

There ain't such thing as an evil spell, unless you're talking about "love"! Which is probably the same thing.

Heh. Who knew the "missus" would be her all along... Man, you really screwed up.

[ He shrugs. ] No, I'm just married. [ Same difference, really. ]

I guess you'd ideally want one that doesn't age, huh.

...So what kind of rituals and ceremonies does a wedding with a vampire involve?

Why? Are you upset you weren't invited? [ He puts his elbow on the table and circles his wrist around, noncommittal. ] The whole point of a marriage is that it's boring.

Boring? That doesn't sound like someone who asked me if I worry about becoming predictable. [ ok, has to ask. ] She got any cute sisters or cousins that were there?

Exactly. Sometimes the most unexpected thing is to do what's expected.

Maybe I should introduce you to my aunt Lena. [ Heh heh. ]

Stop screwing around! You and I aren't that far apart in age. [ Pictures "aunt Lena" as an old grandma. ]

Lena's my aunt, but she's my age. And I thought you said you liked older women. I might have a picture of her, but if you're not interested… [ He throws his hands up. ]

[ Slams both hands on the table, now that the age range checks out. ]

I'm interested, I'm interested! I always thought I'd make a great uncle!

[ Nash produces a locket out of some hidden pocket of his. He fiddles with it some, polishing it while discreetly removing a picture of his sister, who he would not ever subject to Duke, and then places it on the table.

The portrait is small and it's a few years out of date, but it's a fair likeness of Lena in her uniform. ]

[ He squints as he ogles at the picture for a moment, then looks up at Nash. ]

Ha.. haha.. you son of a bitch! All this time, and not once did you mention you had a smokin' hot aunt until now!

[ Looks down at the photo some more. ] Not as gifted as Elaine in some angles...

[ Flatly: ] Every picture is flat, Duke.

She's a Captain in the Temple Guards. Those types don't come by Caleria very often.

But I can imagine the "angles", if you know what I mean!

Temple Guards. That means she probably earns more than I do, too...

She probably earns more than all of us. [ A sigh. ]

Alright, so she's a catch. But why do you carry a picture of her with you? And why show it to me?

Is it weird to carry pictures of your family? [ He shrugs. ] Maybe for mercenaries. Really, she'd kill me if I didn't take it.

[ Lena really doesn't want Nash running off again. And, well, he thinks it would be funny if they met. If he thought he could arrange it, he would. Payback, you know. ]

She's single, rich and a looker... so let's not beat around the bush - what's uncle Duke gotta do to whom to get a hook-up like that?

She has to come to Caleria sometimes to inspect the southern border.
